Alzheimer Family Program

Community Program Development and Education

One of the goals for the Alzheimer’s family Program is to provide accurate and helpful information for friends and families of those who have Alzheimer’s Disease or another form of dementia. We do this in many different ways, and some are listed below. There is no charge for these services within Jefferson County. Call us at (205) 934-2178 to make arrangements for any of these services or for help in other ways.

The Alzheimer’s Family Program Community Development and Education activities include:

  • Group presentations regarding Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia, caregiving, and handling difficult behaviors;
  • In-service sessions for staff at facilities caring for those with memory problems;
  • Educational presentations for civic and professional groups;
  • Meetings with caregiver families to educate, enhance communications, and help plan strategies of care;
  • Planning and initiation of caregiver support groups for churches and care facilities;
  • Provision of printed educational information upon request.
